Dr. Federico N. Soria is a Ramon y Cajal and Ikerbasque Research Fellow at Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience. He obtained his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of the Basque Country (Spain), focusing on glutamate homeostasis in animal models of ischemia and multiple sclerosis. During his postdoctoral endeavour at the laboratory of Dr. Erwan Bezard, at Bordeaux Neurocampus (France), he co-developed superresolution imaging approaches to study the extracellular space and extracellular matrix in live parkinsonian mouse brains. Currently at Achucarro, his team uses mostly fluorescence microscopy techniques and in vivo, ex vivo and 3D-in vitro approaches to study how neuropathology alters the brain extracellular matrix, and how these changes in the matrix affect glial dynamics and neural function.
